PUMA Segway by Michael Ditullo
The Segway and General Motors have redesigned the PUMA or Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility project and the outcome is a more unique and functional urban commuting vehicle with great outlook and features. It features an innovative horizontal design that provides complete comfort and safety to the rider. Several bone lines forming of the vehicle leads the eye from front to back instead of top to bottom and runs smoothly closer to the ground. The distinctive details of this two-seater vehicle connect with the passengers more emotionally and the compactness of the car will allow it to run through busy urban traffic.

Mantra is an automated life saving system concept aiming to tackle the beach safety issues that usually causes drowning casualties such as slow response time, inadequate surveillance, lack of lifeguard safety, and limitation of lifeguards as human. The Mantra concept contains small hairs with embedded electro sensors that detect distress and drowning people and swims up automatically to the spot. The victim them picked up carefully onto the built-in stretcher and it carries him or her on top of the water by using impellers and hydrofoils. There is always constant communication between the Mantra and beach lifeguards through which it carries the victim to a specified beach location where ambulance and medical team remains stand-by.
Lumeneo Smera Car Concept : Combination of Car and Motorcycle
Still in a form of concept, Lumeneo Smera is all electric city car with scooter sized and one seat only, well not actually one seat, but you have to choose to carry a passanger or luggage, you can’t have both. The ability to go 93 miles on a single charge and hit a top-speed of 80 miles per hour is really impressive. Acceleration is quite acceptable as well, with the 0-60 sprint taking only 8 seconds or so. A 144 volt lithium ion battery pack provides the juice. Lumeneo is planning to start selling Smera next year, but no one mentions anything about the price yet.

Another green car for Geneva Motor Show, here’s an amazing hydrogen powered car : the Morgan Life Car, stunning design and at the same time environmental friendly. I think 2008 will be filled with new design of green car technology, this Life Car is powered by an energy storage system composed of advanced fuel cells that will take you for 250 miles on a single tank of hydrogen. It is set to have a top speed of 100mph and will do 0 to 60mph in around 7 seconds. Looking forward to see “the real car” at the Geneva Motor Show 2008.

Finally, lighting car company has released the first UK’s electric sportscar, the Ligtning GT. The focus point of this sportscar is not the top speed, but rather its electric power that will deliver 700+ HP from its wheel-mounted electric motors charged by just your home electric plugs. There is no price tag yet, hopefully we can see this car in a realistic version instead of just rendering. With virtually no polluting emissions, this energy-efficient car uses clean technology and will have the ultimate green rating.

This gravity car is designed by Mark Clarke (Senior Designer at Porsche Design) and 3dyn brought the car into reality. 3dyn took their surface data to create high density foam master models, high temperature fiberglass molds, and finally pre-preg carbon fiber body shells. The cars are fully functional, with high-performance downhill mountain bike disc brake systems, rack and pinon steering (with carbon fiber, F1 style steering) and 4-point safety harness. Short of the purchased bicycle components and formed clear canopies, 3dyn created all components in house, the majority being either carbon fiber or aircraft aluminum.Too bad they won’t make any gravity car for 2008, as it’s stated on their website :
“3dyn will not participate for 2008, as new commitments have precluded us from being able to build another 10+ cars this year. However we may still assist in the design process, if needed. 2008 should be “electrifying” for Zero E Racing.”
Scion, Toyota’s youth brand, has launched its concept at the New York Auto Show, Hako Coupe concept. At first sight, this car might look like a classic car for you, but the inside is fully futuristic. Designed by Tokyo Design Division, this Hako Coupe Concept was inspired by the American vintage among young Tokyo trendsetters, it is intended to reflect “youth-inspired trends”. As Jack Hollis (Scion vice president) says “Scions Hako Coupe Concept embodies a distinct global perspective on todays youth”.“This type of forward thinking complements the Scion philosophy of intently listening to our customers and being willing to take risks to help us see where our brand should be. We took the xBs iconic boxy shape and explored something more vivacious, yet just as emotionally appealing. This concept is the sporty version of a box.”
The Silbervogel is a gravity racing car without engine, designed for the Xtreme Gravity Series in Irvine, California. The aim of this design was to catch the spirits of tradition, innovation and competition. The flowing language of the main body breathes the air of legendary Mercedes-Benz automobiles. Divided in a transparent lower shell and a silver top part with its sweeping glass band running from the nose to the back, the racing car seems to hover a few inches over the road.

Good news ! Tesla Motor has announced that they are going to produce Tesla Roadster. It is also said that all 2008 models scheduled for production have already been ordered for just under $100,000 each. You can start your reservation for 2009 model. Tesla Roadster is the first production electric car to boast genuine sports performance coupled with 210+ mile range between battery charges. Tesla Motors CEO also announced that the company had obtained all regulatory approvals for the Tesla Roadster to be sold in the USA, as well as delivering the first of the production cars and commencing regular production of the 2008 Roadster in keeping with the projected timeline laid out last year.

The final delay for the Roadster’s production was in finding a durable 2-speed transmission that could handle the extreme performance of the high-powered electric motor over the lifespan of the vehicle – and while this struggle continues, the 2008 fleet will roll with an interim transmission and slightly reduced performance of 5.7-second acceleration times to 60mph instead of the 3.9 seconds originally promised. Tesla has promised to retrofit all 2008-model Roadsters with the new transmission when it’s available – at the company’s expense – and the full performance potential will be unlocked once these units are installed. If you are interested with this car, better reserve your place. 900 Tesla roadsters have been sold or reserved already, sales are expected to increase with the release of Tesla’s next model.
Mazda Taiki Concept Car
Mazda is going to show off its latest concept car called Mazda Taiki at 2008 Beijing International Motor Show. If you are looking at the curvaceous shape of Mazda Taiki, then you should understand the statement of “inspired by the shape and flow of the wind”. The challenge of this concept car is to design a car that visually expresses the flow of the air and atmosphere (called Taiki in Japanese). Now you know where “Taiki” name came from.
